Tips On How To Deal with Spring Allergies

Spring is finally here!  Together with Spring comes the allergy season which for a lot of people out there feels like the worst allergy season yet. This definitely puts a burden on spring lovers out there who have been waiting all winter long to finally be able to enjoy the smell of flowers all around them.

So if you love Spring and suffer with seasonal allergies, what do you do?

Tip 1:  Pollen levels are typically highest in the mornings or during dry spells in between rainy days.  In addition, wind can also contribute to circulating the pollen around.  So keep that in mind when making decisions and trying to minimize your exposure to allergens.

Tip 2:  Pollen is normally also outside, which is good news.  So you can take some simple precautions to make sure it stays there.  For example, you can keep your windows closed as much as possible and minimize the amount of flowers you bring inside your home. Clothing is another thing you have to look at... if you spend a long time outside and it has been a pretty bad day in terms of pollen, change your clothes immediately when you come inside.  This will help limit any spread of pollen in your home which you may have brought into the house.

Tip 3:  Wearing sunglasses during the allergy season is also helpful since eyes are typically affected quite a bit during this time.  Not only do the sunglasses help protect the eyes from pollen, but they also help shade the eyes from all the sun.  You can also carry saline drops with you where ever you go in order to help keep your eyes moist, when needed.

Tip 4:  One of the easiest recommendations I can give you is to wash your hands often. It is a simple way to minimize the transfer of any irritant, not just pollen, from your hands to your mouth or face.

Tip 5:  Eating healthy in general helps your body fight whenever it is attacked.  Foods high in antioxidants and other "healthy bacteria" or probiotics help reduce some allergic symptoms as well which can occur from being exposed to pollen.  And lets not forget about vitamin C, which is found in many fruits and vegetables as well as in supplement form. Research does suggest that vitamin C helps minimize some allergy symptoms as it provides an antihistamine benefit.

With these tips in mind, you can start enjoying spring time once again.  So what are you waiting for?

  1. Thanks for the information, I've been a long time sufferer of seasonal allergies and have been looking for a natural remedy. Allergy medications leave me very groggy and unable to function properly, so I try to use them only when I cant bear my symptoms any more.
