Pain or stiffness in the neck may be a result
from either a sprain after bending your neck into an abnormal position or from
poor posture.
Often times, there is no obvious cause for
your neck pain or stiff neck, and your general doctor may refer to it as
'non-specific'.
How to manage your neck
pain or stiff neck at home
Whatever may have caused your neck pain or
stiff neck, all advice is generally the same, just carry on with your normal daily
activities and maybe take painkillers to help relieve the discomfort of pain.
· A heat pack may reduce your pain and
muscle discomfort.
· Try sleeping on a low firm pillow, using two or more pillows
may force your neck to bend unnaturally.
· Take notice of your posture, this may be the reason
for your neck pain and stiff neck.
· Try not to drive only until your pain and
stiffness is relieved, turning your head when driving can hurt and cause you
to lose focus on the road.
· Performing basic neck stretches can gently bring your
neck muscles to relax just enough to reduce the pain and stiffness.
If your pain worsens,
you should seek the immediate advice of your Dr. Do your best to avoid any
strenuous activity until your Dr. has given you the OK.
