Chiropractic and Athletics

What is the summer time without a little golfing, a little boating, a little baseball. Summer is the time we all get out and play. Sometimes sports can gets the best of us, causing us to sustain injuries. Did you know that Chiropractic can help with your sports injuries, and did you also know that Chiropractic can help REDUCE the likely hood of you getting injured in the first place?
Athletes who receive routine adjustments can notice an improved difference in their athletic performance, their range of motion, flexibility, relieve strain placed on the body, and have reduced injuries.  Chiropractic works on both high impact (i.e. football) and low impact (i.e. golf) athletes to help restore their bodies to their highest form of performance. And to make it even better it is completely natural and safe. What separates Chiropractic from other forms of treatment is that Chiropractors focus on the entire health and wellness of the body, not just the injured area. This helps athletes’ bodies to function at it’s most effective state and maximize healing and recovery from all types of injuries.
Chiropractic works by relieving your body of uncomfortable irritants, i.e. subluxations, that can cause strain on a particular area, not to mention relieve pain from that subluxation, in your body. It also works by reducing irritation of nerve roots between vertebrae (which helps with minor injuries). Chiropractors make sure your body is in proper alignment so that it functions at its peak. Proper alignment helps your nervous system communicate with the rest of your body allowing your body to perform at it’s best with no pain or complications. A proper bio mechanical structure allows athletes to achieve and maintain their optimal level of performance safely and naturally.
Chiropractic also helps with previous injuries including; headaches, shoulder, neck, lower back, shoulder, knee, ankle, wrist, mid-upper back, and foot pain/injuries. And there are several different adjusting techniques that help with sports related injuries/pain. Such techniques include; active release technique (where massage and stretching are incorporated with movement of the effected area with a range of motion), functional dry needling (deep trigger points are focused to release tension through stimulation), and electric stim (release tension towards the surface of the muscle using contraction caused by electricity).
There are many things athletes can do in order to prevent future injuries including drinking enough water, maintain a healthy diet (avoidance of sugar and processed foods), practice correct posture, stretch, wear proper pads, guards, and injury preventing equipment, take vitamins daily, get plenty of rest, and warm up properly.
It’s important for ALL of us to take proper care of our bodies health and well being. In order for our bodies to function at it’s peak we must eat nutritious foods, get enough sleep, drink enough water, and visit our Chiropractor.
